As for your question I have been wearing my pair for a little over 2 years straight now and the damage to the leather has been fairly minimal. It depends if you bought a real GI issue pair or not. Theres tons of made in china fakes floating around. If its below 40 bucks its probably a fake. The fakes have pleather that cracks easily. And the soles are glued on rather than vulcanized to the shoe.
