>>2584006some sites have "site karens"... occasionally a nearby landowner who hates everyone, or more frequently the "outdoorsy hiker types". A lot of these sites are behind "authorized vehicles only", "Private property, no trespassing", etc gates. If it's forest service or easement land, there'll be hikers/recreationalists going up to the summit.
My truck's got a bunch of antennas on it, laptop mount, so it looks like I'm supposed to be there. If I don't need a truck full of tools or access is more difficult, I'd rather take an atv or motorcycle. And when I do, and there's hikers that see me, they automatically assume I'm also a recreationalist and that I rode around the gate illegally. Everything from a simple "Asshole" comment, to full-on veins-popping-on-forehead temper tantrums. Go ahead, call the cops. They already know I'm here because i'm workign on their shit today.
The couple in >pic related weren't happy with me in their time-space... about an hour after I got to the site, they got to the summit and saw me. They didn't come near the tower while I was working there. They headed down the mountain, a while later I wrapped up and headed down... passed them (as quietly and politely as I could). Met up with them again just after I got through the gate and locked it back up. That's right bitches, I'm one of those "authorized vehicles".
A few months ago I had a lady step out in front of my truck and proceed to scream at me for 10mins about the private property signs I was "too dumb" read.
On rare occasions there's drug addicts or copper thieves around. Usually don't see them, but get to deal with their damage.
They're why I and most other field techs are armed.
