>>2464622So I went squirrel hunting as I normally do and ended up also getting a corrontail rabbit. What's weird is that it jumped out in front of me, and hid in a bush but didn't continue to run. I poked around in thick brush because I didn't hear it run off so I figured it had to be there and after 5 minutes I saw it standing still looking at me. It was really weird to me because he was super still, absolutely not moving. I backed up like 10 yards and got him with my 20ga. I was a bit excited, I tried to hit him with the edge of the shot pattern but I pretty much destroyed the head and upper torso.
I'm confused and inexperienced with rabbits, is that normal behavior? I thought they take off at the first sign of trouble. Also how prevalent is tularemia? Sources online say it's rare but some people I know say it's really nasty and they don't bother hunting rabbits to avoid that, but it looks like any small mammal that is prone to tickborne issues can get it so why is it associated with rabbits?
pic was some random internet search.
