Kayak weights vary a lot, depending on the size and material.Poly kayaks (plastic) are heavier than fibreglass, all other things being equal. Kevlar are light, similar to fibreglass. Carbon fibre are the lightest and most expensive. There are also ABS kayaks, with weight being slightly less than poly and slightly more than fibreglass..
We'd need more info on where you live and your budget to give you better advice, though.
Cars aren't ideal for hauling anything, a small crossover or actual SUV are best. Failing that, a truck.
picrel is my car and small kayak, if you just want a basic puddle jumper like Pelican then basically any car will haul it.
