When I was like 11 in Massachusetts I went to a summer camp that was pretty much all cutesy bullshit, and songs around the campfire and dumb shit like that, but one of the counselors was a bucknife-weilding, bush hat-wearing hardcore swamp man, and if you joined his team (which I did) he took us out on proper disgusting swamp treks, literally chest-deep in swamps and marshes, wearing just jeans and t-shirts. We saw leeches and ticks everywhere, but actually never got stuck with them, and when you go tromping through swamps you find gross shit like drowned decomposing deer and families of turtles and swarms of flies. I'll never forget it, my love of swamps was solidified in those two weeks.
