>>1246494I just bought a tent and sleeping pad for the first time; I know that it's probably shit, as I usually end up doing that, but I picked it up on sale at a local backpacking store. I live in a hub of backpacking activity and know people fly in from around the world to come here, so I figured as a native I might as well get in the mountains and try some of it out.
It's 6lbs and has fiberglass poles, both of which made me cringe, but not too bad, at least for $120. Very spacious and sturdy - it managed 30 mph wind overnight and about 6" of snowfall when I took it out for the first time. (I also picked up a Kelty Weekender sleeping pad to strap on the bottom of my Osprey Xenith - it's not as comfy as I was hoping, but was decent for $20.)
