If there is anything that can be learned from fishing for predatory fish, especially quick-to-react species like largemouth bass/bluegill/etc, it's that the lure doesn't always need to resemble anything remotely natural to the environment (or even the planet). Sometimes it's just a matter of having the right combination of visual and acoustic appeal to produce a strike.
