the other good choice are picrel style thin nylon pants. you can get them without pockets marketed as "ballet warm up pants" or with pockets as "track / running warm up pants"
i like the track style ones because they have ankle zippers that allow you to take them off and put them on without removing your boots/shoes.
i wear a pair of paper thin ripstop shorts underneath them. gives me the choice of full sun/tick protection, pulling/rolling them up to my knees (the eslastic is tight, they stay put), or just taking them off and rocking the shorts.
its a good compromise if you're like me and the zipper brushing up against your skin in shorts mode on the convertibles triggers your aspergers.
