If you can get your hands on a kayak, take it out with your gear to one of the small islands between Dunedin and Caladesi Island. Might make for a nice getaway, pretty chill and coast guard doesn't seem to mind people starting fires out there.
Unfortunately Florida as you know is a bit of a suburban shithole rife with stingy old jews so most /out/ spots require a reservation and have a designated campground, of those I do highly recommend Fort De Soto Park, Honeymoon Island, Myakka State Park, and Manatee Springs.
