It was too dark, between the storm and the trees, for anything besides an owl to go that fast. The tracks started and ended just outside of our camp. And by the gait, you don't need to be a master tracker to tell the difference between two legged and four legged tracks. This was something with hooves, and on two legs, moving fast through the pitch darkness.
Nothing happened, there was nothing at either end of its trail. But those trees were tall, and we never looked up.
