>>2034418Just because the military uses it doesn't mean it's the best. Classic logical fallacy. Ironically most SF guys actually wanted to keep 45acp 1911s around and a lot of them did until relatively recently, I'm fairly sure some are still in official use. The only real reason to carry 9mm in relation to the military using it is for ammo availability and larger selection of firearms, not performance.
Most auto pistol cartridges do the same thing but there are minor differences and some of those differences can be important in certain scenarios though by and large they usually aren't,. If you look at non-skewed stats 9mm underperforms slightly compared to 40sw and up (slightly above 1 in 3 one shot stops for 9mm vs slightly above 1 in 2 one shot stops for 40sw and 45acp using modern ammo) and is unable to take the heavier bullets all of which is as should be expected, meaning you should always be carrying HP with 9mm. You should be carrying HP anyways but keep in mind the military cannot and back in the 1911 heyday 45acp ball had better wounding ballistics by default than 9mm ball and still does, bullet technology progressed only relatively recently in regards to expanding bullets. The reason they switched to 9mm was almost purely logistic. And for reference I also own and occasionally carry 9mm along with 40sw and 10mm, it's still excellent all around providing you use JHPs for two legged threats.
