>>1179828>>1179828>Planning to make a parabolic microphoneNoice. I made one some years back, isn't the best sounding thing but it's good fun. They aren't complicated but the details really matter.
1. Getting a true parabolic dish is hard actually hard. (I bought a squirrel baffle at Home Depot for $16)
2. Mic choice and mounting - lots of options here. I went for a cheap omni lav mic, which is fine, but I had to put a cup over it to really shield it from wind and help focus it on the dish.
It works pretty good, you just have to find the exact focal point to place your mic diaphragm (simple maths - tutorials available online) and you're good to go. I don't use it much because it's not the kind of recording I enjoy, the sound quality isn't amazing. It is very very narrowly directional though which is great, I used it once to hunt down a cricket in the basement.

>>1180140Yeah man jus tuse craft fur. I've sewed my own windmuffs for my field recording mics and they work great and sound good. I've also sewed 4 sets for some studio ribbon mics and those work/sound great too. Costs nothing. Sew them inside out and then pop them outside-in and you have yourself some nice fur pouches. I can't sew worth shit but with some trial-and-error you'll get a technique down.

Here's my channel. Last recording I got was a hanging swamp on a rocky bluff next to the ocean. Wasn't a ton of wildlife like I'd expected, but the nonstop wind was spectacular!
