>>194240c) I rode on roads. If there was a shoulder, I used it. Most of the roads I took were fairly quiet, so cars passing me from the rear could just use the lane going in the other direction. I didn't have any issues with slipstreams from trucks. I felt some of them, but the added weight on my bike made me pretty stable when I was moving.
d) Here's a list of my daily mileage numbers on what I refer to as 'full riding days'. On a number of days, I did things other than ride my bike, like climbing mountains or seeing sand dunes.
84, 76, 72, 74, 87, 104, 75, 87, 88, 90, 80, 65, 80, 70, 74, 141, 58, 96, 79, 81, 74, 56, 94, 110
I seem to have flattered myself a little bit. The average is only 83.
I would normally just wake up, eat breakfast and ride until sunset was getting close, taking short breaks to eat. I would go to bed shortly after sunset. In the beginning of my trip, days were long, so I'd be riding from 6:30 AM to 8 PM or so, and sleeping from 9:30 to 5:30. Setting up and breaking camp, along with the associated meals, normally took me an hour.
e) I think I addressed these questions in these posts:
