>>129938To avoid ticks, long sleeves and pants, preferably of white and other clear colors, and good closed shoes.
To ward them off, there's nothing better than DEET >30%. Sadly, it's affected by temperature, wind, sweat, rain... making it weaker, and forcing you to reapply it regularily. If you don't, know that a low dose of DEET has the adverse effect, and attracts all forms of anthropods, which is why DEET >30% should be used unless you want to become a gigantic insect landing platform. It also degrades plastic and synthetic clothing, so unless you have nothing but cotton, wool and leather on you, avoid using DEET.
As alternatives, you can use, by order of efficiency, IR35/35 (3-[N-Butyl-N-acetyl]-aminopropionic acid), KBR 3023 (Bayrepel), EDH (Ethyl-hexanediol) and DMP (Dimethylphtalate). As for chemicals dedicated to be applied on clothing, use permethrin or deltamethrin, both are quite effective and can last for months on clothing, even after washing.
For natural alternatives, citronella, neem oil, soy oil and quwenling. But be wary of allergies and other side effects, such as light sensitivity.
Also, wash your innawoods clothes at 60°C minimum, which will guarantee to kill any tick that could be caught in your clothes, otherwise it'll survive and jump on you as soon as you get your clothes out.
