>>2773811Since you haven’t been following Rudy was a happy accident and typically I wouldn’t have accepted a wild duckling but: the mother was long gone, I saw them early in the morning day of hatch and it’d been over half the day. I did go and look at the creek and golf course, the two nearest bodies of water, but both were over 2 miles and no luck finding any momma ducks. The neighbor brought the duckling over because I have chickens, turkeys, and had a Guinea once. I fully expected it not to make it because not only is it wild it is a wood duck and they’re notoriously hard to raise and not kill. Despite the odds Rudy has grown and thrived with no small help and advice from some decent anons. My best hope is something like

I agree that people shouldn’t try to raise wildlife but I’d rather raise her and if necessary care for her for several years and give her the best life I can than have just let the poor baby go to almost assuredly die without a mother’s care.
