This is what I carry with me on day hikes or as general rural EDC after testing different combinations and discarding stuff I don't need. I live in mountain region with lots of rain, fog and bugs. The final weight is about 3.5kg
Contents:
- work gloves (for climbing or warmth)
- zip lock bag with spare socks, 4 plastic bags, 2 elastic bands, cotton bandanna and mylar blanket (when your feet are wet changing socks and wrapping them in plastic bags will keep your feet dry from wet shoes)
- rain poncho with sleeves (superior to regular GI poncho in storms)
- small 15D 210x150cm tarp, 10m quick deploy paracord ridgeline, 4 aluminium stakes, 4 guy lines, 2 clothespins (cover your legs, cover your bike, make A frame etc. only 160 grams for the tarp)
- BW folding mat (perfect to use with A frame shelter or sit with a poncho in a storm)
- mosquito head net
- 10L compact backpack
- stainless steel water bottle
- zip lock bag with 1 high protein bar, 1 energy gel, 2 electrolyte tablets, 1 instant coffee sachet, 1 bouillon cube, 4 water purification tablets and a small plastic fork (last resort food but it's well rounded and will guarantee 0 to hero moments for the next 2-4 hours. I also usually combine it with ibuprofen for the best "get home" performance)
- small roll of TP
- small bar of soap
- elastic bandage
- first aid kit with mostly blister and small cuts care but also painkillers and golden star balm (the balm is like magic, look it up)
- 10000 mAh power bank and usb stick
