While the gasmask was for fun, it was also for a reason. There's a lot of weird shit in the dust down there. Chemical and biological hazards for sure. There's a bunch of asbestos in some parts of the thing and the ceiling has caved in or the floor fallen out in other places. It's pretty dangerous, and was a lot of fun to dig around in. A large number of the rooms were clearly used for storage a few decades ago and then forgotten about forever. There were no fewer than four pianos we found, several old soda machines a bunch of ancient electronics equipment. The wiring looked like it had been redone several times over several decades.
