>>1215290For entry level I'd say some generic synthetic or leather hiking boot with a medium height/support and a goretex membrane (unless you live in a dry area). THE most important thing is that you try several on and talk with the guys in the store about your what you plan on using them for before purchasing.
I sport a more heavy full leather boot with goretex atm, but I wouldn't recommend that for a beginner since these are more meant for longer trips, heavier loads and rugged terrain, but their added weight and stiffness would be overkill for more casual hiking.
Ignoring the specific brand or model a good quality boot that looks something like pic related will serve you great as a jack-of-all-trades.
