Thank you for the detailed answer! I know i should pick 1 system, but the way I'm looking at it I'll happily eat the extra 200g to carry a bivvy, since that's the only item with no crossover and it can be used as extra insulation in a hammock in a pinch.
Good advice on the pillow, I'm still developing from reading accounts before I drop any serious money - e.g. I was going to get a puffy jacket, but a fleece seems superior for Europe.
Ah, that's interesting, about the shape of the pack conforming to you!
Perhaps you can help me with two worries - 1, how do you stay presentable when you head into a town? Do you ever end up looking worn down and grimy like a hobo, or is that avoidable by looking after your skin, not taking heroin etc? Ever been refused service or sensed hostility towards you, or do people realise you're a hiker?
Secondly, I have a crippling fear of slugs. I'll conquer it one day, but as for now, I'm going to carry a netted bivvy if I go to ground, and the advantages of hammocks are obvious. How much do slugs crawl on your pack? Is there any material they dislike, and do you ever wake with them on your polycro or gear? Seems silly but it's the equivalent of some people's fear of spiders walking across your face
Also where are you? That could be somewhere in the baltic by those mountains, or greece. Is that a gossamer gear pad? You're awesome man, you're a yuge inspiration whenever you post on here
