I like simple, minimal gear because I can focus on being outside. It also gives me a sense of accomplishment and reminds me of the way people used to live. Milsurp has lots of this- I fucking love my plashpalatka, my USGI patrol bag, wool blanket, woobie, hell I even like to hike in the Austrian surp boots sometimes.
There is trash out there. Some milsurp will fall apart. Some of it is overbuilt beyond any reason. Some of it gets popular and the price skyrockets. Some of it is civilian stuff just in coyote or multicam. Some of it is knockoff crap that will fail you.
I like these threads, but much like looking for decent milsurp 90% of the stuff you come across is garbage.
