Did not have as good of luck on the national forests, which is a complete 180 from where I grew up, but the forests in so cal were cramped as fuck and I never felt like I could just drive down an old lumber road and be left alone. The best I found for national forests are Yellow Post sites, which are free, and are easily found on google (ie. “yellow post campsite San Bernardino”)
