And what kind of riding? Mountains, trails/ ditchbanging, sno-x?
Each style of riding is pretty different. What works on a sno-x course may be of little to no good to a mountain/trail rider (you'll never see anyone in the mountains with a pit coat on).
Same goes for sleds. The best sno-x sled in the world is going to be pretty shitty (and a total maintenance whore) in deep pow. Mountain sleds are miserable on trails.
Renting sleds is also a good option if you're not using it at least four times a year. Guaranteed a late-model sled every time you go, and you don't have to maintain/store/insure it the rest of the year. When you're riding 30-ish days a year, yeah, get your own and set it up for you and your riding style.
