Life at the edge of a small rural town is good. It's literally a fifteen minute walk through the woods to bigger woods, a nature preservation area, which is something like 30x30km of uninhabitated land. I like to take the dogs out there every now and then. When I'm planning camping in a new spot, I just google the nearest lakes name+hiking paths. If none found, it's good to go. Picture related, nearest house was about 20 kilometers away. Found bear shit too on that trip. To op's question, maybe get a better country?
