Yesterday I raked up the leaves I dumped in the garden pen last fall. Put about half of them in the compost and the other half in plastic tub to save for the compost as things start breaking down. I also refilled 15 fabric pots with container soil I stored in containers during the winter.
Today I planted potatoes in 5 fabric pots, plus the potato pen at the shaded end of the garden where no much else grows. I also planted peas along the entire grass perimeter of the garden so they can grab onto the chicken wire. In the past I think I've been planting peas far too late, usually the end of May when rest of the garden goes in.
I'm probably going to skip starting stuff early in trays this year. I figured out my germination issues in the past had to do with the soil drying out. Covering the rows with a fabric painting drop cloth prevents the top inch of soil from drying and nearly everything germinates.
