Studied this for 2 years and worked 2 years both on and off shore. The money was insane but after realizing how much it fucks up the local ocean and how much of an ass the bosses where I quit. They say it's all good because it's sustainable and the fish in it's natural environment and all that but it's bullshit, this is a billion dollar industry and all about the money.
You know we dumnped chemicals straight into the ocean to cure the fish when they were sick or were infested with lice, these chemicals damage and destroy the eco system for other organisms expecially crustacean and other bottom feeders. The bottom of the ocean where these places are located looks like dead mans land but instead of bodies everywhere it's shit and mold. All the food the fish eat and all their shit sinks to the bottom.
Obviously these things are being worked on but it's not as sustainable and envoirmentally friendly as they make it up to be, they do everything to make it seem that way so people will be more accepting towards it so they make money.
Fish require less food and water to raise than things like cattle and pork but it's still not completely sustainable, mainly becuase the food they use come from other fish, but the ratio is like 10 parts wild fish = 8 parts farmed fish or something.
I think they're working on using insects instead of fish but I haven't been in the industry for about 4 years now so I don't really know
I'm in a first world country, I can't imagine how bad this shit is in countries like China
