>>1324863Not sure. I just trim all suckers off early on so they don't have any until about 2 feet off the ground. That helps improve air flow and prevent early blight. Those plants are also pretty old for my area. They sprouted March 9th, and are in the middle of their 5th month. That may also be why they are so bushy at this time, if you are comparing them to younger plants. I need to tie them up more, but they are so bushy that is is a bit impossible. Now they have reached the top of the 6' wall and are toppling over and growing down.
The soil is built to be loom, though it needs a bit more clay. The biggest problem is the bioavailable calcium getting washed away too quickly in the spring. I get a lot of blossom end rot then. Everything is packed with nutrients though. Most of the tests I did showed an abundance last year. I haven't tested this year.
>>1324871Mine don't split when the weather is dryer and I can control how much water they get. Like today, they got about 3 inches. Yesterday, 5 inches. I was going to water them yesterday, but didn't need to obviously.
>>1324869I'm not sure what the problem is then.
>>1324861The first of many I hope. I have regular cayenne, but they are lost somewhere under pumpkin plants. I fear the worst.
