I am putting in a new section of garden in my backyard and want to know what kind of plants will take well to it. The picture shown is a rough approximation of my backard (dark grey is the house, light grey is patio, and the black outlines with brown interior are my current pots/plots. The stuff in red is my new garden section, and my concern is that near the eastern end of it, much of the midday sun will be missed due it being close to the house and eastward of the western face of the house (I'm in the Northern hemisphere).
If part of the new garden is missing direct sunlight during the early-midday period, does that pose a major problem? The new plants I am considering for the plot are corn, potatoes, squash, and hot peppers. If none of these will take well to the eastern end of the plot, does anyone have any suggestions for plants that would do well in that region? We are pretty open to trying anything as long as we can get a decent yield.
