the nervous system continues to fire due to stored chemical electrical potential between the synapse. The central nervous system causes the body to move even after the brain is shut down and the heart is not beating. The system is still shooting signals up and down the body, causing limbs or the head to twitch sleep run or kick.
Shot placement and caliber will help eliminate some of the death spasms but it is akin to hogs the brain is small and you did not place the shot correctly it sounds like.
I do not need to get morbid on you but it happens they can drop straight down, get a step, get up and head for brush, flop like a fish out of water, and run into a tree headfirst. Most of the above were improperly placed shots.
