But food takes so much more. Your raised beds and balcony chickens are cool, but that's not even close to self sufficient. You need to provide all your food needs both macro and micro nutrient wise. That's tough work. Back in the day, after the home was built and water and fuel supply secured, people spent most of the day trying to fulfill those food requirements. That's what I'd focus most on. Gardening, animal husbandry, foraging, hunting and fishing if you plan on that. And of course you need to be able to preserve all of this food but thats a different story.
