Washington ranks decently high on the /out/ spectrum but not as high as people think. For starters, Washington has no high elevation plateaus which means most of the mountains (albeit prominent) don’t exceed tree line very much which is annoying. Being surrounded by vegetation all the time gets old. It’s also not as grandiose or awe inspiring as the high sierras or Rockies.
But there are cool things. Rainier and Baker are fucking awesome. Genuine world class experiences. If you’re good in the back country, you can really get lost in the north cascades and find some cool shit
Olympic Peninsula is overrated. Looks pretty but it’s just miles and miles of logging operations, poorly developed Indian land, and a few shitty shanty towns. The hoh rainforest is meh. Beaches aren’t great. Even the actual mountains themselves aren’t that great.
