I understand the sentiment and believe it or not I entirely agree with it. I understand how this list sort of degrades a lot of passions to the level of a video game, but that's not really the point. Why I think it's a nice idea in theory is -- and this is why /trv/'s checklist is so frequently posted -- it encourages aspiration for people who honestly don't think they have the time or means to do anything. That's why my biggest problem with the finished product is that it doesn't have ENOUGH "fucking retarded ones". I think they encourage debate and allow everyone to get the desire for meta-conversation out of their system. A checklist everyone can fill in is, I agree, silly and completely misses the point of being an /out/doorsman.
So I never intended either list to just be about showing off all the shit you've done. But where I do this kind of list has real potential for being useful is when you look at someone else's and see that they have done something you are interested in hearing more about, so you can ask them about it. "You've built a boat? I'm interested in starting a similar project, can you recommend any online resources for me?"
