I don't blame you, night is scary. Was tenting alone in VA on the AT somewhere on the way up apple orchard mtn. Was all set up, had dinner, food in a tree, fire going. Night time, no moon, heard something big moving. Looked up and saw green eyes staring at me and they blinked! Too far away for headlamp to illuminate. Of course, I immediately imagine a blood thirsty bear. I make noise, yell, hit my pot with my spoon, throw rocks. That shit didnt care. I threw all my extra wood on the fire for some primal sense of protection. Green eyes move around my camp, look at me and then wander off. I let the fire burn out, sleep with one eye open and a hiking pole within reach. Later that night I hear that same slow walking animal, two of them now (one far). Freaking out hearing one get closer within 10ft. Slapped my tent and heard the thing take off, after a long enough silence, warily went to sleep.
Looked it up later, it was probably just some fucking deer walking around grazing. They were super unafraid of people down there too. I'm such a pussy.
