How well could you experienced fishers decide where and what to fish?
There's a small lake near home, under 60 acres. A shallow creek feeds it from one end, and there's a spillover dam at the other end. Except for getting washed over during strong rains, the fish cannot leave that end.
There are bass, catfish, carp, bream, and crappie in this lake. I've caught everything but bass and catfish in it. The bass are extremely pressured, and I get a lot of free lures by snagging other people's lines that they've cut off, and pulling it out of the water. But I digress.
I'm taking my kayak out for a leisurely paddle. I may try picking apart some of the cover for crappie, but I would very much like to catch some catfish. I don't know the gradient of the lake, so I'm not sure how deep it is or exactly where the deepest parts are.
The fountain is not always on.
Where should I fish for catfish in this little lake, and what do you think is the best bait?
