"Bear" is like "dog". There's as much difference between a black bear and a grizzly as there is between a pomski and a grey wolf; looking kinda similar is the only commonality between them.
You probably won't find a bear willing to fight me in the first place. Bears react to the situation that they're in; I run into wild bears frequently, I don't fear them and they can tell, bears don't fuck with something that isn't afraid of them because they don't want to get fucked up either.
Running from a bear is typically not a good idea UNLESS its a mama with cubs, she'll never be more interested in chasing you than she will be in protecting them.
Finally, the actual question posted by OP: "Could you fight off a bear?" Yes. Even a grizzly will run off after a solid knock or two to the nose. Nasal cartilage is thin and frail on all land mammals, and like dogs, bears have extreme difficulty with breathing through their mouths. A broken nose is scarier to a grizzly than a full mag of .45 to chest is.
