GPS's are convenient, but they're still just a navigation tool. They have limitations. Batteries die. Or you crash the motorcycle and peel it apart like a banana.
I use my compass to get a quick north bearing, and I use the compass with my GPS when I'm looking for a waypoint.
>pull up waypoint
>says it's 1/4 mile at 123°M
>rotate compass to 123°
>red in the shed
>"Quarter mile that way."
