Yes, I worked on it myself, and if you want to learn woodworking, electrical stuff, plumbing, etc... it's a great way. I feel the skills I've picked up will translate really well to building a house someday. There is a LOT of good "how to" material out there on every little detail, so it's not hard to figure out.
Having a sink is basically one of the primary benefits of using a van instead of just car camping/tent camping. Brushing your teeth, washing your face, washing dishes, whatever. It makes daily life far far easier and more comfortable. A sink and a comfortable mattress are key, really.
