Got a Guide 10 solar kit for christmas this year.
Generally if I need electricity, I'll just grab it off my bike/sled engine. More than enough capacity on either one for anything I have with me.
But this charger... is pretty badass.
Basically, a reservoir of 4 AA batteries. The same kind of batteries used in my camera strobe, P&S camera, flashlight, GPS....
...Charges either from solar or USB Mini-B.
Also has a USB power port - I can use either the rechargeable AA's in there or regular alkalines to charge a USB device. Like my phone or helmet camera.
Solar panel part folds open like a book, there's an octopus-sort-of brain in a pouch that has an "in" connector to chain multiple panels together, a 12v "out" (guessing that's the two panels in serial) with a connector for a regular auto cig lighter, a "solar out" (guessing that's the two panels in series) that goes to the AA recharger (or another panel), and a USB-A jack that I can connect a cable to go to my phone or helmet camera.
I have yet to use the solar part, although it's got a spot in my truck. Probably stick it in my windshield while i'm out riding to recharge the AA's in the recharger. But like I said, I haven't used it for anything more than holding up to the light in my bedroom to see if it functions.
>Pic very much related. (Just shot these last night.)
