Sasha Siemel was famous for killing Jaguars with a spear. In the thick jungle firearms just didn’t work well because visibility was only about ten yards so even if they shot one they would usually get mauled before it died. So the default weapon became a spear. They would send hounds in and drive them towards a choke point in the fence where a man with a spear would wait for it and when it attacked him it would impale itself on the spear. He also accomplished this task with a rifle and bayonet.
