If you work somewhere where commuting into town is feasible, you may be happy buying a half acre+ in the hills. Like Buckley, Randall or Elbe. It's not as cheap anymore, but it's still way less than building in town.
Just buy a shitshack on wheels, get your utilities hooked up, and build the paradise you're looking for onsite. You can even get cell reception now, so you can shitpost every odd day.
