>>93119I thought that acrylics were a good place to start. I felt the same way when I started using oils, but now that I've gotten used to them I think that they're way better than acrylics. I think the main benefit to oils is that you can mix mediums in with the paints and do "glazes" (pic related), where you apply a thin almost transparent layer over your painting to get layers of different colors that work together. Depending on how you paint, oils can be totally opaque or very transparent. It makes blending and shading a lot easier. I'm thinking about buying some sort of medium but for acrylics so that I can do a similar effect but with acrylics.
Yeah, it's way more expensive. I'm definitely not going to buy my own set. My art class has professional grade paints that I can use (even for personal projects), and I'll have access to paints while I'm in college.
Definitely try oils if you get the chance. Take some classes somewhere. They're awesome.
