Buy the Chinese military issue ones, buy some Turkish knock offs- whatever.
They are backup shoes you can actually hike in, can actually be washed, dry quickly.
Buy them new, the cost is minimal, you won't regret buying them.
Downsides is that they don't offer as much protection as other shoes, specifically in the context of snakes, they perform poorly in the mud and are unusable in cold, wet conditions or snow.
But let it be said even in these conditions you will want a camp shoe.
