Don't know if this technically counts as /out/ because it was on a public road albeit in the country
>Out cycling
>Getting dark
>Nearly at destination
>Light dies, it's one of those USB powered ones so can't replace batteries
>It is now pitch black
>2 choices: back 30 miles through the pitch black darkness hoping I don't get hit by a car or forward 2 miles down a massive hill to the train station hoping I don't crash into a tree
>Think about it, decide on option B
>Start going down hill, all I can see are 2 white lines and absolutely nothing else whatsoever
>No wind, can't tell how fast I'm going and can't see the trees on the side of the road for a reference point
>White lines disappear for a short while, have to guess where the road is for a few seconds, somehow get it right
>eventually get to bottom of hill and safety of town lights
>Check recent max speed on cycle computer now that I can see in the light
>44 mph
>Get taxicab to station, driver tells me story about ghostly body flying down hill at 50 mph when he was driving up it earlier
>Was going to tell him it was me but will look like an irresponsible dickhead.
So to summarize I did the equivalent of cycle down a hill at near 50 mph with my eyes closed for 2 miles and somehow survived.
Pic is the road.
