From a moral perspective, what makes lives or humans more valuable than lives of other animals? Shouldn't hunters be treated as murderers unless in self-defense? Surely there must also be animals whose lives are practically or economically more worth than lives of some humans, yet the severity of punishment will not reflect this objective difference in value. How does this fit in a secular system?
