Been hiking for about 5 years now. Hiked in several different environments in several different states. I consider a decent trek pole to be ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU CAN TAKE WITH YOU INTO THE BUSH!!! I just used mine last night to fish my damn nalgene out of the river when it fell in, but I've used it to act as a third leg while traveling up river beds, rocky cliffsides, bushwacking, ect. You can use it to move snakes and spiders out of the way, hit people with it. Wonderful tool. Prefer the collapsing aluminum ones for lightness/storage. No need for one of those 150 dollar REI ones. I can't even figure out why they charge that much. 20 dollars ought to do ya!
