>>2053208We stay in airbnbs. Part of the fun for me is going to a real bed where I have copious amounts of ice in the freezer to chill my water. Last airbnb had a separate chest freezer so I could fit two large bags of ice in it which was real nice. One time we ended up last minute staying in a smol cabin (airbnb) dating back to the 1850s and it only had a smol freezer that could hold one smol bag of ice and that was less fun. Also, real toilets + shower.
Though I suppose a cooler and staying at a developed campsite could approximate that, but our most recent airbnb was the most quiet yet - no road noise, no animals making noise, nothing really.
>>2053264You have to find 3 things you can find on the map. What if you can't? Totally unnecessary retrograde way of navigating. Alltrails + downloaded maps = instant knowledge. Topo maps are highly inaccurate out here and not especially precise. Gps is frankly more precise than the topo maps.
Newer phones don't get damaged by rain or exposure to water. I keep my phone zipped up in a pocket tightly when I am not looking at it. An anon here mentioned losing his at a waterfall and I remind myself of that when I am out now.
I do rely on it as a compass as well, but I rarely use it for that anyways. I have a separate flashlight but honestly I could use to upgrade it maybe.
I hate the noise of ppl shooting when I hike. Be considerate of others on the trail plz.
