There was talk about food (I think the main focus was Mountain House meals) for long distance hikes. Someone suggested instant potatoes, which are pretty much ubiquitous for hiking. A retard suggested actual potatoes; he was not joking. A few people found it to be absolutely retard-tier advice (considering the cal to weight ratio and the fact that no everyone even cares to build a fire) and the potato sack meme was born. It wasn’t in support of actually bringing potatoes, it was making fun of the idiots who do.
The jannies quickly stepped in and started deleting potato memes and posts, even if the discussion was about food. People were suspended for three days for spamming right as the meme was emerging. The jannitors are obviously potato eaters themselves.
