Any of you have experience growing Japanese maples? There's a local nursery that sells off their entire inventory every June with progressively better sales (25%, 50% ,75%) and then they close for the year. They have a coral bark japanese maple for $125, but it looks pretty ratty compared to other nurseries, though a fraction of the price, the only other nursery that's got one is $300 for a 6ft tree, or $350 for an 8ft (they don't do any sales until fall though). So what I'm wondering is whether it's worth it to buy the cheaper ratty tree, I don't want to throw away money on something that's going to die, but if it will rebound next spring then who cares.
