Uses: Cherokee used root tea for stomach ailments, kidney ailments, and nervous conditions. Iroquois used dried powdered root as a was for sore penis, also kidney trouble. One Iroquois name means “make you dream”, achieved by a wash of weak stem tea on hands and face. Liniment once used by physicians for skin eruptions, itching; weak leaf tea sued for insomnia, nervous headaches, nervous twitching, and uterine disease. Surprisingly little researched given its abundance.
