Any one have any decent recommendations for where I can find cheap strong somewhat static rope and pulleys to drag some logs around? Stong enough to handle a come-along through maybe up to a 4x1 reduction?
I'm planning to move some decent sized beaver felled ash logs about 50 yards, slightly up hill and over some rocks, too rough to use log rollers, but maybe I can use some for a slipping surface. It's in the woods but I have a clear shot. It's on a small island so I can't get anything that wont fit in a 13ish foot boat, and I want to try and keep them long, I want them as logs not firewood or just to carve a bench out of.
We have some really old large wood pulleys, but I don't trust them to handle the force of a come-along. And we have plenty of old 1"ish manila (or maybe hemp?) rope but what ever it is, it's much more stretchy than I like.
I'm fine with using hardware store pulleys, but it's the rope that I don't know what to look for that won't break the bank. Something like this but a bit larger and longer, and under $200 is possible.
