>>572299I grew up swimming in a coastal saltwater lake and was always scared that the seaweed I brushed up against was a shark or something (the lake is so big it's been known to have great whites on occasion), but there's a more practical reason I try to avoid it; sea lice often infest seaweed. Had some brush the length of my torso once and was itchy for hours, plus the bites sting when the salt aggravates them.
Pic related is my biggest fear out on the lake though. They're a type of scallop that grow vertically from the lake bed and are so sharp that it takes a while to feel the pain in your foot getting sliced open when you step on them.
Apparently they taste good though.
